County approves Intel bond request

The Sandoval County Commission approved a record 8 billion in Industrial Revenue Bonds for Intel Corp. to back a deal that includes building a Rio Rancho high school and paying the county 50 000 annually for 10 years. Rio Rancho seeks fast track for new high school

Intel plans an eight billion IRB backed program promising thirty million for a Rio Rancho high school. The district without a high school aims to break ground by October and open by September 1996 if plans stay on track. Contractors were being interviewed with a target completion by next school year dependent on funding and design reviews.

Jimsonweed poisonings rise in Rio Rancho area

A Rio Rancho teen was hospitalized after ingesting jimsonweed seeds, becoming seriously ill with frothing, hallucinations, and uncontrollable behavior. His mother Susan says the plant, not illegal and common locally near Cimolo High School, is being spread by youths. Hospital staff report more jimsonweed poisonings and warn of its dangers. datura stramonium is the plant name.

NM Supreme Court denies Rio Rancho petition to remove PUC

The New Mexico Supreme Court denied Rio Rancho’s bid to remove the Public Utility Commission from its waterworks acquisition plan. The court urged a PUC hearing this Thursday and testimony to show city operation can run the water system efficiently. If the PUC rules against the takeover, the city may return to the Supreme Court.
