Wreck Death in Tibbetts Case At I-25 Near Bernalillo
Mechanical problems contributed to the crash in which Sandoval County Fire Chief Jon Tibbetts died when Armando Saenz lost control of a Cadillac SUV on I-25 near Bernalillo. Tibbetts died at the scene. Saenz was hospitalized then released. Prosecutors weigh charges as investigators say both cars were near the 70 mph limit and Saenz drifted left, overcorrected, and struck a concrete barrier.

County approves Mariposa tax rate in Bernalillo
In a Thursday meeting at the county administration building, Sandoval County Commissioners voted to approve the Mariposa tax rate certificate set by the state Department of Finance and Administration and to order tax bills based on those rates. The vote split with three commissioners for and two against. The Mariposa rate totals 1 mil for admin costs and 12 mils for debt service, up 3.5 mils from last year as High Desert Investment Corp faced changes.
