Rio Rancho weighs city pay raises for future leaders

Rio Rancho officials debated increasing mayoral and council pay at a second work session. The plan would raise current compensation for future governing bodies, with raises affecting districts 1 4 and 6 beginning in March and the rest in 2006. Public support was mixed with calls for more data on compensation in comparable cities.

Free ice cream at Rio Rancho Dairy Queen on Tuesday

Dairy Queen outlets including Tony Otero's Rio Rancho shop on Southern Boulevard will hand out free small 5 ounce ice cream cones on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations will be taken for the Children’s Miracle Network as Dairy Queen marks the ice cream cone centennial with a year long celebration.

Rio Rancho to get 38 acre skatepark complex and fields

City plans Destination Rio Rancho a 38 acre site on Loma Colorado between Rio Rancho High School and Blades Arena with a 15 acre grass complex a state of the art skatepark and amphitheater. Pro skaters including Andy MacDonald and Tony Hawk are tied to the project with at least 20 pros expected. Initial phases include grass seeding irrigation from Well 10 and a 750 vehicle paved parking lot with overflow access to nearby facilities.
