Precipitation since month start totals 3.22 inches with a 1.72 inch deviation from normal, and year-to-date 7.78 inches with a 4.36 inch deficit. Rio Rancho City Engineer Lowell Lester contests a Sept 15 Albuquerque Journal report claiming a Vista Hills drainage system violates city law. In a letter to FHA official Michael Griego, Lester says Vista Hills meets all ordinances and urges disregard of the article. FHA delay on closings remains possible pending further review by investigators.
The Rio Rancho City Council voted to seek 400000 in state emergency relief to repair Golf Course Road flooded September 13. City Engineer Lowell Lester warned immediate work is needed to prevent further damage, estimating 30 to 45 days for repairs and detailing a durable fabric and asphalt surface plus an interim drainage ditch.
About 30 students at Cibola High School formed Students Shall Speak to push the Albuquerque Public Schools board to raise teachers’ pay as teachers work to contract. They cite loss of clubs tutoring events and Homecoming, while principals and teachers seek mediator negotiations and planned steps to pressure the board.
Rio Rancho city council voted 4 1 to appoint Councilor Henry Pacelli as acting mayor pro tem during Grover Nash surgery and Carl Zander vacation. Pacelli will handle mayoral duties and advise temporary City Administrator Hal Donovan as needed.
