Rio Rancho police respond to Eagle Ridge Middle School after a seventh grade student is found with a pellet gun in his locker. A shelter in place was held briefly as officers secured the scene and questioned students. The case is referred to Juvenile Probation.
Rio Rancho police say a Monday night crash near NM 528 and 19th Avenue involved three vehicles and may be tied to road rage. A 25-year-old Honda driver and a 47-year-old van driver forced the Honda to the curb, then struck a Ford F-250 towing a trailer, causing a jackknife and rollover. The truck driver was hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. passenger uninjured. Lanes were closed about two hours as investigators planned to file charges against the two drivers. Names will be released after charges are filed.
Police search for a large knife-wielding robber who attacked a Utah traveler early Friday after check in at Comfort Inn 4081 High Resort Blvd. The suspect fled in the victim’s Chrysler Town and County van, later recovered by deputies at Ranchitos and 2nd NW. The man wore an orange hoodie and black pants. Contact Rio Rancho Police at 891-7226 with information.
The Rio Rancho Observer corrects an earlier report stating the Sandoval County Sheriff helicopter assisted in the Sunco standoff. The helicopter was actually provided by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office and not Sandoval County.
