Intel bonds to be decided by Sandoval County on Sept 21

Intel seeks 8 billion in industrial revenue bonds to retool its Rio Rancho plant with no county tax cost. In exchange Intel offers 5 million for county use and 30 million for a Rio Rancho high school, drawing objections from Bernalillo and other districts. A Sept 21 public hearing will gather input as a bond ordinance amendment is considered.

Country club marks 25th anniversary fireworks party

The Rio Rancho Golf and Country Club celebrates its 25th year with a free fireworks event on Friday Sept 15. KOOL-102 will provide music at 5 30 PM and a dark display over the driving range. Club grill will offer refreshments and parking is members only. Sponsorship booths offered to community groups or local businesses, apply by Sept 11.

Suspected domestic dispute cited in Cibola high school shooting

Peter Rosa a senior at Cibola High School described as 5 9 155 pounds with red hair and blue eyes may have been driving a black 1984 Chrysler LeBaron convertible registered to his parents Investigators say a domestic dispute may be a motive though details are unknown DPS juvenile probation officers have previously interacted with Rosa and he is on probation for residential burglary The District Attorney awaits a DPS preliminary report before charges and arrest warrants may have been issued Tuesday but none existed at press time

Rio Rancho plans Unit 16 West redevelopment amid land buyout

City eyes acquiring about 900 acres south of Southern Boulevard for Porsch led redevelopment. Buyers may use eminent domain if owners refuse, with 30 days to decide and voucher options. Project envisions 3,500 homes, 7,000 construction jobs, fiber infused high tech village centers, and a 10 year buildout.

Play in the Park program begins this Monday

Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation announces the return of Play in the Park after school program for local children. Activities include baseball soccer football and arts and crafts at neighborhood parks. The free program runs 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday starting Sept 11 weather permitting.
