$40 Million Apartment Complex Planned North of Corrales
A 335-40 million, 750-unit apartment project on a 35 acre site just north of the Corrales Shopping Center is set to begin. Developed as a joint venture by 7-Bar Ranch and Crow Western, the plan includes three 250-unit phases, six floor plans, and clubhouse facilities. The project will reroute a ditch along Cabezon Road and create a tree lined buffer with neighbors, with Calle Cuervo Negro as the access street and ample parking for residents and visitors.

Rio Rancho man convicted of seven sex offenses
Tom Baca, 39, a Rio Rancho postal worker, was found guilty on seven counts of sex offenses involving two nine year olds after a four day trial before District Judge Tibo Chavez. He was convicted August 29 on five counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor, one count of attempted criminal sexual penetration, and one count of indecent exposure. Bail was denied pending a pre sentencing report. An appeal is expected.

DA Explains Hernandez Investigation Into Cuba Area Scandals
District Attorney Tom Garde announced a grand jury indictment against Sandoval County Commissioner Johnny Y Hernandez over alleged county road department actions in Cuba. The indictment accuses Hernandez of attempting on July 31 to swap diesel fuel for wood beams from his father's lumber mill, with a conspirator unnamed. Wood beams are in use at cattle guard crossings. John S Hernandez reportedly did not bill for the timber.
