Six hour Rio Rancho standoff ends with ag violent charges
A six hour SWAT standoff in Rio Rancho ended after police charged 31 year old Juan Martinez with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon child abuse and domestic violence. He allegedly armed himself with a knife and barricaded in the residence in the 400 block of Vancouver before arrest. Meanwhile a motel robbery at gunpoint was reported at the Extended Stay Deluxe on NM 528 around 10 p.m. No further details were released as the investigation continues. The city also announced First Fridays with Mark a monthly citizen meeting hosted by District 4 Councilor Mark Scott at Café Connection from 1 to 2 p.m. with invited guest Daniel Chamberlain. He plans to discuss public place visioning and its economic impact before open comments. Café Connection address is 3751 Southern Blvd.
