Rio Rancho Astronomical Society breaks ground for observatory
Rio Rancho City and the Rio Rancho Astronomical Society held a groundbreaking at Rainbow Park for a roll-top observatory and planetarium during the Night Under the Stars fundraiser. The project will house two donated fixed telescopes and a portable one, with plans for a small open-air planetarium in phase two. Melanie Templer, ARAS president, noted local support from Harris Jewelers for an interactive sundial and emphasized student teaching and community outreach with area colleges and schools. The plan includes star gazes, guest speakers, workshops, camps, and possible birthday events.
