The Rio Rancho Rotary Club sponsors a Mini-Boxcar Derby during Christmas school vacation open to boys and girls aged 10 to 16. Derby chairman Jack Crowley leads planning with Dave King and Cal Mowry. Cars built by entrants will be inspected in October, with two divisions and a Turkey Qualifier at Thanksgiving prior to the main event. A segment of Highway 528 may be closed for the race.
The Rio Rancho Residents Association will convene on Tuesday October 24 at 7 30 p m at Rio Rancho Elementary School. All members are urged to attend this very special meeting.
The City of Albuquerque awarded a 71 thousand dollar design and construction contract for Loma Del Ray Park to Volcanoest Inc of 5958 Coors Rd NV. President John Vento said work will start next week. Volcano Nursery Inc has been in business since 1972 at the Coors Rd address since 1975. Their projects include Prime House McDonalds Cibola Village Owen Plaza and sports fields at Pius X High School. The Vento family resides in Corrales Heights Rio Rancho. 898-6734.
