Ballooning after decades as a major general
Retiring U S Air Force major general Dave Eichhorn, age 58, swaps jets for a hot air balloon. A former test pilot with about four dozen aircraft, he now chases winds from Albuquerque to Taos on weekends and uses military discipline to forecast winds and plan landings. He first took up ballooning after time at Holloman AFB and stalking the Albuquerque balloon fiesta, finding the sport demanding and rewarding.
