National Day of Prayer events in Rio Rancho and Haynes Park

Interdenominational National Day of Prayer gathering scheduled for Thursday May 4 at noon outside Rio Rancho City Hall and at 7 p.m. in Haynes Park. Public invited. State limits PUC veto on utility condemnation changes

Gov Johnson signed Senate Bill 982 altering condemnation rules for cities over 25,000, removing PUC approval for such actions. United Water New Mexico must still obtain PUC consent to abandon the utility after sale. The city notes the abandonment decision remains a procedural matter but not fully delegable. By May 8 the PUC requires an abandonment application, with May 22 for city response.

Scouts Honor Leaders and Groups Receive Service Awards

Girl Scouts of the Chaparral Council honored Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Health Care with Community Service Awards. The Cibola Service Unit earned the President's Award, with Sharon Parker and Mary Stott receiving Outstanding Leader Awards for their roles in registrar duties, magazine renewal campaigns, and Brownie event coordination.
