CASA Walk raises funds and awareness for Sandoval County children

In Sandoval County 52 children are in foster care and 80 child abuse reports are investigated monthly by CPS. CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in court after 30 hours of training and judge appointment. Steve Stucker of KOB TV praised volunteers and urged broader participation.

Public safety stressed in budget for Rio Rancho

In the first budget hearing for fiscal year 2013 Mayor Tom Swisstack and City Manager James Jimenez push public safety, seeking a 2 percent pay hike for all city employees including police officers and a firefighter. Swisstack cites a low employee-to-citizen ratio and notes 13 new police vehicles are in the budget proposal.

Rio Rancho VA clinic opens May 15 with new outreach

The New Mexico VA Health Care System will open the Northwest Metro VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic at 1760 Grande Boulevard in Rio Rancho on May 15. The 10,000-square-foot facility serves veterans in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho with primary care women’s health dental mental health telemedicine and lab services. Grand opening run from 1 to 3 30 p m with patient care to begin May 15. Hours start 7 30 a m to 4 p m.
