The Rio Rancho Robo Runners four time State B.E.S.T. champs ran a four day Robotics Camp at Rio Vista Church attracting many youths. On Thursday parents photographed as teams built, wrote manuals, and piloted robots in a competitive game day with home-schooled student Gaven Griesel operating for the Red team.
The group formed in January 1982 as a building fund drive for a new city library and has since funded most Esther Bone Memorial Library and Loma Colorado Main Library programs. Originators Ruth Bruening and Curtis Morgan led early efforts after 40 new acquisitions were reported in a January 28 1982 Observer issue.
The city council approved Cecilia Evjen as HR director at 96 824 a year after a dispute over city executive salaries. Councilor Tim Crum urged a lower pay, while City Manager James Jimenez defended the value. Evjen comes with 20 plus years in HR and was chosen from 59 applicants. Meek also named fire chief at 96 824 annually after rising to top from about 45 applicants.
Rio Rancho officials and business leaders urged ongoing development at a Rio Rancho Economic Development Corporation luncheon. Presbyterian Rust Medical Center spokeswoman Elizabeth Brophy announced plans to add 24 beds in July, reaching 92 beds, and noted the hospital has delivered 300 babies. Kevin Rogers of UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center highlighted projected growth for the City Center facility.
