Rio Rancho growth constrained by Rio Grande water limits
Kathleen Parker argues Rio Rancho faces a -acre-foot water shortfall as population could reach 325,000 by 2092, while permitted supply remains 26,000 acre-feet annually. With 88,000 people in 2010 using 13,000 acre-feet, shortfalls threaten Albuquerque’s Colorado water and San Juan Chama supply amid regional shifts to alternative sources. Parker warns growth must align with proven per mitted water and diversify sources elsewhere.

GOP plan to pressure Senate Democrats in New Mexico
GOP strategists aim to weaken Senate Democratic leadership in New Mexico's 2012 cycle. They target replacing Senate Republican leader Stuart Ingle with a harder allied governor ally and seek primary challenges against loyalist Republicans. Three incumbents have left, with Harden’s seat already seeing candidate filings. The tactic signals loyalty to Gov. Martinez over the Senate and could trigger major legislative upheaval.
