Rio Rancho mayor defends red light plan under budget pressure

The Rio Rancho mayor defended red light camera decisions amid a 3.6 million budget gap and a targeted 700000 revenue from the cameras for the 2011 fiscal year starting July 1. He warned of cuts or new taxes if the funds do not materialize and noted ongoing reviews of revenue sharing with vendors and the state. Rio Rancho Economic Development Corp chair Paul Sowards highlighted HP's service center and Green2V's planned 1 million square foot campus as signs of a strong economic base, while urging retention and new business growth. The final town hall is July 13 at Star Heights Recreation Center, with an RFP for red light camera vendors issued and due July 7.
