Rio Rancho Rotary elects new officers

John Pieracki becomes president of Rio Rancho Rotary Club as the 20 member group elects Bob Whalen as vice president John Eatherington as secretary treasurer and Bill Gillingham as sergeant at arms Ron Bowman starts a second year as program chairman The club meets Tuesdays at 12 15 p m at Rio Rancho Golf and Country Club Pierucki will push staffing and programming growth and youth programs. he is a retired Navy captain with Legion of Merit and other honors.

UNM proposes entrance requirements revision and changes

The Entrance and Credits Committee at the University of New Mexico voted to re submit a proposal to tighten admission standards while removing the foreign language requirement The plan would apply to students graduating after February 1977 and allow alternatives such as high school courses night study or ACT scores to satisfy subject matter needs The committee also adjusted the date and suggested balancing measures to accommodate older students and preserve resources at UNM departments The debate followed hearings requested by the Regents and reflected concerns about accessibility and preparation in local schools and the value of mandatory language study.

Decision due on Paradise Hills water rate hike

The Public Service Commission chair predicts a ruling in two to three weeks on a proposed water rate increase for Paradise Hills. Paradise Community Services seeks about a 50 percent water rate rise, with 101 intervenors and cross examination of witnesses at a five hour final hearing led by Walter Keller.
