Bernalillo author Greger draws on pigs for thriller Coming Flu

Janet Greger, longtime biochemistry researcher and professor, wrote Coming Flu drawing on her pig farm upbringing and viral science. Set in Sandoval County's La Bendita, epidemiologist Sara Almquist battles Philippine flu and a drug kingpin in a quarantined town as 200 locals die locally and a million worldwide. Greger, 64, now in Bernalillo, says the science is real and his book, part of a three part series, blends fact with fiction and public safety themes. She will sign copies at Under Charlie's Covers in Bernalillo Saturday 11 am to 1 pm.

Rio Rancho councilor pushes for city image and spends plan

Rio Rancho City Councilor Chuck Wilkins posts breaking news on his site about Jimenez severance. He claims the city could pay 144000 to James Jimenez but may reduce costs by about 47000 when accounting for acting pay, COBRA, and accruals while a new city manager is hired over nine months. He outlines steps to make City Hall friendlier to business and proposes an impact fee moratorium, efficient Development Services, streamlined ordinances, and a small business liaison. Mayor Swisstack disputes claims of alienation and notes growth has occurred with staff helping new businesses. He stresses perception versus reality and highlights the need to foster both Intel and HP as anchors while growing retail and restaurants.
