Rio Rancho governing body grants first reading to an ordinance raising salaries for elected officials starting in 2018. The measure passed 4-2 with Dawnn Robinson and Dave Bency in opposition after extended public comment from residents and the mayor.
The Sandoval County Commission will hold a Wednesday work session at 4 p.m. in Bernalillo to discuss renewing the mill levy for Presbyterian Rust Medical Center and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. A decision on placing a renewal question on the November ballot will follow as officials review issues. PCM Inc hosts a Rio Rancho job fair 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with on site interviews for its August launch. pre registration is encouraged and resumes are advised.
The 11th annual Mayor's Sunday event will offer accessible paths and parking at Intel parking lot and Roskos Field, lift vans from Intel to Haynes Park, accessible bathrooms, charging stations, large print schedules, and a Friday program on August 21 from noon to 4 pm. Admission is $1 for ages 12 and up.

ERNALILLO The annual German invasion of Rio Rancho began last week as Eleonore Kluge brings two dozen students from Germany to the City of Vision. At Coronado Historic Site the teens, dressed in casual summer wear, viewed a video and compared Southwest features with their homeland. Mayor Gregg Hull noted the local charmes and explained green chile customs while Kluge described the area’s histories.
Sandoval County New Mexico Innovation Laboratory once hailed as promising has been shut down pending space relocation. County spokesman Sidney Hill said the lab lost its Intel plant space in Rio Rancho and a new site has not yet been found. Dr. Rod Sanchez, the former operator, is no longer involved as his county funded contract expired and was not renewed. The March 3 opening aimed to give local students hands on tech experience in digital media game production animation and robotics. Sanchez had cited demand in medical defense and entertainment sectors and collaborated with Los Angeles film studios.
The City Council unanimously passes two ordinances enabling the city to administer and act as fiscal agent for SEDA contributions to Satelite Solutions and PCM as they expand locally. PCM will open a call and sales center in August in City Center, creating 224 jobs with wages of 45k to 65k. Satelite AutoGlass plans a customer contact center in the former Sprint building in Enchanted Hills, creating 893 full-time positions at 11 to 13 dollars per hour, operations starting June 30.
Rio Rancho Public Schools boards pushes back a decision on the First Nations Preparatory Charter for Native American youth. Former Rep Ray Begaye presented the plan in June and board members seek more information on ARPS financial impact, scheduling a revisit in August. Vice President Catherine Cullen notes potential costs including transportation and buildings as Superintendent Sue Cleveland speaks.
