Fireworks Hearing Set After Village Ordinance Change
Citations against two vendors and seven individuals are slated for July 18 in Corrales Municipal Court for violating the Corrales Village fireworks ban. Joe Ruiz of Gemini Fireworks and Joe Chiado of Aardvark stands each received four citations for selling illegal fireworks within one mile of the village. The council amended the ordinance June 28 to empower police to cite selling possessing or discharging illegal fireworks nearby. Attorney Peter Everett noted the change relies on a state statute allowing enforcement near municipal limits for noxious acts. Court hearings will test what counts as unwholesome and noxious fireworks.
