GateKeeps Kids on Campus at Rio Rancho High

Rio Rancho High School installs an 8000 dollar automated gate to deter off campus driving and intruders while keeping students able to leave with a one use code from administration. The fence of access remains open during arrival and departure times and may require students to park outside if they lose entry codes.

Sandoval County Approves Subdivision Ordinance Draft

The Sandoval County Commission approved a new draft subdivision ordinance on Thursday to comply with the 1995 Subdivision Act requiring counties to adopt regulations by July 1, 1997. County staff spent hundreds of hours revising the measure, noted county attorney.

NM 44 to be widened to Four Corners area

Gov. Gary Johnson announced plans to widen NM 44 from Bernalillo to Bloomfield into a four lane highway. The project, funded via a public private partnership, aims to reduce crash deaths and boost economic development across 140 miles. Construction could start next year with full completion by 2001, at an estimated cost of 214 million dollars.

Highlands break ground on Rio Rancho facility

New Mexico Highlands University Foundation breaks ground for a Gate Way North building opposite Intel in Rio Rancho. NMHU president Selima Rael says the facility will host classes and later determine offerings. Mayor Tom Swisstack praises the project while Intel’s Bill Garcia notes education access for employees. Community leaders call the Highlands Rio Rancho partnership a 21st century solution to higher education.
