First Community Day Planned This Saturday in Rio Rancho
Rio Rancho prepares for the First Annual Community Day on Saturday July 12 from 7 30 a.m. to 9 30 p.m. Events include a parade balloon ascensions dancing and band concerts with a grand raffle featuring goods and services donated by local businesses including Roman Fountains Inc Vista Grande Apartments Hob Nob Restaurant Rio Rancho Country Club Panorama Inn Grandinetti Products NUMEX Dimalco and others.

New Mexico Cancer Society hits fund raising goal
The New Mexico Division of the American Cancer Society has met its Challenge Goal for 1975 with over 222,199 raised this year. The Sandoval County South Unit led efforts with 2,969 of a 3,000 target. At a board dinner, certificates were awarded to Kay Stephen Linda Shoop Barbara Myer and Louise Fulham, with Pauline Bovenzi and Linda Shoop receiving special honors. Norman Myer of Rio Rancho was named president elect. A December 27 fundraiser at The Auditorium in Rio Rancho was announced, and volunteers are urged to assist in sewing driving education and fundraising activities. Monthly ACS Bingo on July 9 at 7:30 p.m. at The Auditorium in Rio Rancho is sponsored by the Italian-American Society. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 15073 Rio Rancho 87124.

Elks buy land for new Rio Rancho headquarters
Rio Rancho Lodge No 2500 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks will break ground within 90 days on a new 100000 dollar headquarters on nearly two acres at Sara Road and Meadowlark Lane. Exalted ruler Richard Hagen signed the purchase with Jim Wall. building aims for 4000 square feet. Members from Albuquerque and Sandoval County, roster 450, expected to double in five years.

Cliff Merkel son of Mr and Mrs Nathan Merkel of Corrales received a $300 scholarship at Walla Walla College in College Place Washington. He was one of six students awarded the funds by the Walla Walla College Faculty Women's Club. Merkel is a junior majoring in biology.
