Rio Rancho city department heads to get 5 percent pay raises
City of Rio Rancho council approved five percent salary increases for department heads in the new fiscal year beginning Friday. Highest paid head is Police Chief Dencil Haycox with a raise to 23,063. City Clerk Treasurer Joanne McGlothlin rises to 18,323 and Parks head Mary Mason to 15,746. Librarian Jo Hintner to 12,127. Personnel Director Cecil Cheney to 4,15, up from 3,000. Corrales considers new ordinances and road contract action
Corrales Village Council studied three citation ordinances at the June 28 meeting. Only Dee Turner and Gus Wagoner attended. One ordinance would add a $25 fine for citations to cover breath tests, another would raise penalties on violations. The council allocated the federal revenue sharing fund of $7,844 to pay for the fire truck. A stray animal contract with Verde Animal Clinic will be revisited. The road maintenance contract with Sandy Jones was renewed. Annexation of 23 acres was dropped for lack of a quorum and will be on the next agenda.

Participants learn to combat flooding training in Rio Rancho
Representatives from Rio Rancho Corrales and several agencies joined a two day flood fight training led by the Albuquerque District U S Corps of Engineers. Participants attended classroom sessions in Albuquerque on June 29 then practiced on the east bank levee below the Corrates Bridge using five flood control methods including Keimer jacks gaboon baskets sand bag dykes and lumber toppings.

Wind turbine plans presented to Paradise Hills zoning board
The Paradise Hills Zoning Commission heard plans June 28 for an 101 foot vertical axis wind turbine behind the 9733 Coors Road plant with a housing 155,000 square foot shopping center proposed west of Eagle Ranch Road. Other items included storage shed near Lower Fairfax Drive, a steel house near St. Joseph Hospital, townhome signage, and pool installations.

Commission proposes hedge fence limits in Rio Rancho zoning
Rio Rancho Planning and Zoning Commission on June 28 recommended amendments to the zoning ordinance to apply fence rules to split bedges used as side rear lot line fences. A defined fencing term would cover plantings, metal, wood, or vines used as boundaries, with a six foot height cap for plantings along yard lines. The commission unanimously adopted the amendments and set monthly July and August meetings for July 26 and August 30.

First City National Bank Plans New Rio Rancho Building
Ground breaking Friday for a 12,000 square foot First City National Bank building in Rio Rancho on Rio Rancho Drive south of the current modular office. The project costs over $2 million and signals a bank expansion via merger and stock exchange with Bank of the Southwest, which now becomes part of First City National Bank.
