NM lawmaker duo to propose amendment on racial busing
January 24 1980 Rep Hal Stratton and Rep Brad Cates will introduce a New Mexico constitutional amendment aimed at limiting local public boards power to force busing for racial integration. The measure would bar state courts from compelling pupil assignment or transportation except to remedy a violation of equal protection. They cited concerns over neighborhood schools and district redrawings impacting busing. Support from APS board members was indicated.

Duke City Dashers Host All Comers Track Meet
The Duke City Dashers sponsor an all comers track and field meet on Sunday at Tings ley Coliseum State Fairgrounds. Open to boys and girls eight years and older, the free event begins at 1 a.m. Ribbons awarded and participants invited to join the club which has won 22 American and international titles since 1970.
