Alamogordo district seeks more funds and fairer state aid

Kids Rounds argues Alamogordo would gain 3.7 million if it received the state average, lifting its teacher pay rank to seventh. He criticizes the 20 year old equalization formula as biased toward large districts and special categories, calling it middle child syndrome. The state plans a 200 000 study to review the funding formula with experts. Rio Rancho and seven others receive extra funds. a lawsuit may be filed within two weeks with 11 districts likely joining.

Republican Party Elects Officers in Sandoval County

The Republican Party of Sandoval County elected new officers for the next two years. Judy Van derstar Russell of Rio Rancho was chosen chairwoman, Mary Kwapich of Pla citas first vice chair, and Kevin Haney of Rio Rancho second vice chair. Ruth Deemer of Corrales becomes secretary and James Franklin of Rio Rancho treasurer. Vanderstar Russell aims to raise party awareness and strengthen networking among candidates and volunteers. Obernesser Named West Side Program Manager at BBBS Albuquerque

Jane Obernesser will head the West Side program for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Albuquerque. She arrives from Washington DC where she tracked family and children’s legislation. She holds a BA from Loyola Marymount University. Executive director Margaret Bishop plans a major expansion of West Side services at the United Way Community Service Center in Rio Rancho Southern Plaza.
