A sequence of DPS and hospital transports records several male patients from January. Ages 67, 55, 41, and 44 were moved to St. Joseph's West Mesa or Lovelace Medical Center for symptoms including weakness, chest pressure, back pain, and a fall from a ladder.
Mark Woods living in Rio Rancho was arrested Thursday on a parole violation after contacting his girlfriend’s three children. Det. Don Donges said Woods faced a Bernalillo County DPS warrant and was held at Sandoval County Detention Center until transfer. He had prior assault charges in Albuquerque and allegedly threatened the children to stay silent. The three children were placed in protective custody.

An employee arrived after Thanksgiving closing at 11 30 p m to find a black duffle bag. A male suspect wearing black and a ski mask emerged, threatened him with a shotgun, forced safes open, and stole cash. The assailant, white or Hispanic about 5 10 and 160 pounds, knew the store operations and called the employee by name. The state Motor Vehicle Division office in Bernalillo will close at 5 p.m. on Friday January 27 following the end of its current lease. Staff will be reassigned to the Albuquerque MVD office at 3401 Pan American NE and residents are advised to use that office for vehicle and driver registrations.
Corrales Police will receive a 43500 grant from the traffic safety branch after state approval. The funds cover a new officer for two years and an equipped vehicle, with money expected in February pending approval. The Corrales village council approved the grant last week.
State Highway and Transportation Department reports 485 deaths from 432 fatal crashes in 1988. Of victims 356 were in motor vehicles, 85 pedestrians, 40 motorcyclists, four bicyclists. Alcohol featured in 259 cases. Seat belt and helmet nonuse high. Rural roads accounted for about 74 percent of deaths. 83 percent of victims were residents. 1988 deaths fell from 1987 by 83 or about 15 percent.
A Rio Rancho store employee faces a Sandoval County grand jury over allegedly embezzling nearly $300 and falsely telling police an armed intruder robbed the shop. Pamela Hopkins, 25, and a unnamed brother are sought on conspiracy and embezzlement charges as the district attorney seeks an indictment. Hopkins reported a robbery on January 3 but later confessed to taking $268 and returning part of it. She will appear before the grand jury later this week.
