Relay for Life kickoff party in Rio Rancho Saturday
The first step in this year’s annual Relay for Life in Rio Rancho is a Saturday kickoff party at Ernest Stapleton Elementary from 2 to 4 p.m. The event, chaired by Susan Ryerson, invites participation to honor cancer patients and raise funds for the American Cancer Society. The relay is set for June 25 and 26 at Cleveland High School, with a goal of 60 teams and $60,000. organizers urge teams to aim for $100 per person via pledges, and the event features an 80s theme, survivor ceremony, team tips, and registrations. Local resident Lisa Gonzales shares her family’s cancer journey with her son Brian, a leukemia survivor, highlighting how the relay inspired her to pursue nursing and support others.
