City offices to close for Martin Luther King Day

Rio Rancho and Sandoval County offices will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Day holiday. Corrales Community Library hosts His Hands Puppets performing Rumpelstiltskin on Saturday Jan 14 at 10 30 a m. Free program for children sponsored by Friends of the Corrales Library. Snowstorm yields only minor incidents in Rio Rancho

Rio Rancho saw few problems from the snowstorm with most accidents in Albuquerque. DPS spokesman Ernie Wilson noted drivers were careful and police focused on clearing crashes quickly. City engineer Jerry Fossenier said streets crews began at 2 am and salted main arterials by 11 am. Rio Rancho Public Schools delayed then canceled, coordinating with Albuquerque Public Schools per state guidance. CPS delays to be announced on The Observer NewsNet line and local TV and radio.

Stabbing Case Involves Two Groups In Rio Rancho

A fight between two groups led to a stabbing. Adam Chacon, 19, is held in Sandoval County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after being arraigned on aggravated assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Police are investigating a possible retaliation motive and have not linked the incident to gangs.
