Candace Vigil certified trainer for Color Code Communications will speak at the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce Mingle and Munch Luncheon at the Rio Rancho Country Club. She owns CSV Communications, sole New Mexico provider of Color Code products and services, and will discuss understanding personalities to motivate employees and relations. Luncheon runs 11 30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations through the Chamber.
The second annual Bark in the Park sponsored by Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation runs Saturday March 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rio Rancho Sports Complex on High Resort Boulevard. Entry before March 3 is $10, March 4–17 $15, at the event $20.

Administrator James Jimenez notes the study, begun after New Year, aims to identify problem factors, review staffing, and foster dialogue with the governing body, with recommendations expected in spring.
The trial of Jeffrey Taylor, accused in the July 1998 murder of Nancy Noren, will be held outside Sandoval County after Judge Louis McDonald ruled publicity tainted the jury pool. Taylor led officers on a high speed chase in Noren's car on July 31, 1998. Noren was last seen July 17. Trial page 4.
Steven Light, a Rio Rancho school bus driver, was fired by Helweg-Farmer Transportation after he filed a January 21 report about possible violence at Rio Rancho High School. Light says manager Ken Morris resigned weeks earlier. the company cites his past work history in the firing.
Senator Pauline Eisenstadt and Rio Rancho Public Schools Superintendent Sue Cleveland warn a veto by Gov. Gary Johnson means a special budget session is needed. The revised budget cuts education while funding for early childhood and literacy programs remains limited, delaying funds for school programs and capital outlay.
Last summer about 10 000 metro area students signed the pledge against gun violence. Over 2300 Rio Rancho High students and 750 Martin Luther King Jr Elementary students joined in support as a joint memorial was proposed by Kay Wilkinson. NM Representative Lisa Lui sponsored memorial HJM 11 seeking official recognition and action.
