Rio Rancho Board Sets 6:30 P.M. Meeting On 500 Laser Road

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education meets Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the district offices board room at 500 Laser Road. A 3 p.m. gathering with UNM West officials covers an early college partnership, and an executive session is planned at 5:30. The agenda includes A Park Above by Alex Weimer, honoring Rio Rancho High School boys cross country champions, first reading of Policy 402 on earning credits in middle school, the 2015-16 instructional calendar, and the superintendent’s evaluation and extension for Sue Cleveland.

Haase Family Seeks Help for National Police Week Travel

The family of fallen Rio Rancho Police Officer Anthony Haase hopes to attend the National Police Week ceremony in May in Washington, D.C. They need about $10,000 for travel expenses. Donations support the Officer Anthony Haase Memorial Fund at Bank of America or the Go Fund Me page.

I Love RR Day Moves to Feb 27 at Santa Fe Capitol

The I Love Rio Rancho Day program was rescheduled to Friday February 27 at the Capitol Rotunda Santa Fe from 9 30 am to 1 pm with floor sessions and tours. Registration closes February 25. A pre event dinner February 26 at La Fonda Hotel costs 75 per person or 500 for a sponsorship.

Driver avoids prison in fatal Bernalillo wreck

Brooke Williams, 23, received five years probation and a six year prison sentence suspended in the August 22 2012 alcohol related crash near 13th Street and Northern Boulevard that killed Arthur Duran. Judge Louis McDonald cited remorse and a history of vehicular homicide cases, ordering Williams to speak at DWI awareness programs. Williams faced vehicular homicide, reckless driving and drunken driving charges and showed progress after treatment.

Rio Rancho schools report drop in habitual truancy
