ASK Academy Board Meeting Scheduled for Thursday

The ASK Academy will hold its monthly board meeting Thursday at 6 30 p m in the charter school's board room. Agenda includes budget adjustments manager evaluation process real estate acquisition and a preview of 2013 14 calendar options. The Rio Rancho MVD office will close at noon Thursday for staff training at 4114 Sabana Grande Ave.

Valles Caldera Documentary Airs On KNME TV Sunday

A KNME TV documentary titled Valles Caldera The Science airs Sunday at 2 p.m. It spotlights the Valles Caldera National Preserve inside a collapsed crater near Redondo Peak and explores climate research, geology, hydrology, and fire effects in the area.

Schlichte Wins Fourth Term on Rio Rancho School Board

Rio Rancho Public Schools board President Don Schlichte won re election Tuesday to a fourth term. He received 206 votes in District 1 while challengers Jan Marfyak and Mario X Martinez earned 123 and 95 votes respectively. In District 3 Martha Janssen led with 58 votes to Trina McKee's 16 after McKee withdrew.

Teacher charged with two counts of child abuse

Rio Rancho Middle School teacher Ken Boyd, 45, was arrested and jailed on two counts of abandonment or abuse of a child after two separate incidents at the campus. An affidavit details him yelling at staff, restraining a student, and locking a classroom door, prompting student fear and at least one resignation. He was held in Sandoval County Detention Center on $20,000 cash bail. later reportedly released. The district says he is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
