Placitas residents protest asphalt plant action near Placitas

Placitas residents and the Eastern Sandoval Citizens Association protested Fisher Sand and Gravel New Mexico at the Sandoval County Commission meeting over alleged zoning violations. They claim illegal sand and gravel mining and potential asphalt manufacturing would bring noise, trucks, and lower property values. County plans require removal of the hot plant and equipment within 30 days. Fisher says permits and zoning may allow operations and denies violations.

Judge County Struggles With Rising Caseloads and Limited Judges

Judge McDonald says the district faces a heavy workload, with cases nearly tripling from 4,500 to 12,000 since the seven judges took office. Criminal work moves quickly, but civil cases lag as criminal priorities push them back. The district attorney and defense lawyers also press to move cases efficiently.
