Rio Rancho Seeks Members for Two City Task Forces

Rio Rancho City Council created two one year task forces in December the Illumination Task Force with five residents one Planning and Zoning Commission member and two Chamber of Commerce members and the Air Quality Task Force with five resident members. Both will study city lighting and air quality issues and report to the governing body. Contact Deputy City Clerk Ann Norby at 891-5004 for resumes.

City Hall and County Offices Close for Holidays

Rio Rancho City Hall closed Thursday and Friday for Christmas and will reopen Monday at 8. City Hall also closed Friday Dec 31 for New Year’s Eve. Sandoval County offices close Christmas Eve Friday and again Dec 31, reopening Monday morning.

Angels rescue motorist after near head on crash

Steven Mora and his wife Christine were decorating their Paradise Hills home when Mora swerved to avoid a white car coming toward him on Unser Boulevard. His car flipped onto its side in an arroyo, leaving him injured and bleeding as he attempted to walk away before returning to the wreck.

Rio Rancho Supt Sue Cleveland Extension Through 2002

Rio Rancho Public Schools extended superintendent Dr Sue Cleveland's contract to 2002 at a special board meeting. The $90,000 annual salary remains unchanged as funding cuts hit districts statewide. Board president Carl Harper and member Joel Sherman praised the decision as prudent and stable.

County OKs wish list for 2m capital projects

Sandoval County Commission approves a capital improvement wish list totaling over 2 million dollars for the New Mexico Legislature to fund next year. The package includes 1.1 million for Santa Ana Soccer Tournament Complex upgrades and 175 thousand for District Court complex expansion planning. Also sought are 125 thousand for Bernalillo Senior Center renovations and 2,508 for housing during the session for the county lobbyist. Legislature convenes January 18 for a 30 day session.
