Airtight Housing Tips From New Mexico Solar Retrofit Expert
Martin Selinfreund of the Heating and Cooling Division recommends caulking sealing and insulating a house to be as tight as possible. He favors double glazed windows or thermally efficient units and advises insulating to R-20 to R-30. If south facing glass is limited it can add heat, otherwise consider a south wall heat panel. For masonry homes external insulation with 4x8 sheets of 2 inch urethane, bonded stucco, and color coat finishes are suggested. Call Sundial for solar information at 800-432-6782.
