Water rate case triggers emergency PSC meeting in NM

Rio Rancho City Council Plans Meeting Wednesday

The Rio Rancho City Council will meet on Wednesday August 22 at 7 p.m. in the city auditorium on Sabana Grande. Agenda items include adopting an ordinance for the special street improvement fund in District No 2, committing state gasoline tax receipts and declaring an emergency, and discussing emergency power.

County Commission debates redistricting limits and budget matters

The commission debated whether redistricting can proceed after six months in office and planned to seek an attorney general opinion. They discussed a $2 174 60 request from Cuba Soil and Water Conservation Board, noting oversight of district budgets. A regional landfill study was updated and staff was asked to examine Santo Domingo Pueblo precinct needs. A beer and wine license was approved for Timber Ridge Restaurant, and staff was directed to decide if Canyon road is private or county maintained.

New Mexico approves 167000 grant for solar industry fund

The New Mexico Community Development Council approves a 167000 25 percent match for a 500000 revolving loan fund by the New Mexico Solar Industry Development Corporation to aid startup firms in alternative energy. Rio Rancho will sponsor and review loan applications, with projects in Dona Ana Luna Hidalgo and Sandoval counties aimed at creating about 128 jobs.

Rio Cinema Owner Arrested Over Worthless Check Scheme

Rio Cinema owner Rio R. was arrested for falsely obtaining and issuing worthless checks connected to advertisements in the Observer. Joe Ashley, 27, was detained at the theater and booked in Sandoval County jail after bond was posted. The complaint alleges Ashley issued two checks totaling 667 dollars to the company, later returned for insufficient funds.
