Rio Rancho Council Approves Livestock Ordinance Amendment

The Rio Rancho City Council passed an amendment to the Animal Control Ordinance by a 4-3 vote, with Mayor William Howden casting the deciding vote, allowing domestic livestock in certain areas amid 1363 petitions against the measure. Planning chair Dale Glass urged zoning rather than animal control, while residents urged covenants enforcement. debate touched on roosters, chickens, and community standards.

Beer and wine election set for county and villages

Petitions for a county beer and wine election were filed and verified by the County Clerk. An election date of September 29 was set by the County Commission for a joint election with the Village of Corrales and the town of Bernalillo, while Rio Rancho votes a week earlier. Poll books close August 18 for non Rio Rancho residents to register by August 18. Rio Rancho ends August 11. The commission also approved air conditioning repairs for the courthouse including a new cooling tower, to be done by Traxco of Albuquerque, at about $35,000 spent in two years. Discussed a request from California Real Estate Appraisers to print out lists of out of town owners in Rio Rancho on county time, with a price around $500 per list. Commissioner Kelly supported running lists on county time and making them available for purchase.
