Intel Delays Opening Rio Rancho Plant Amid Economic Slump
Intel Corp has not set a target date to open its 180000 square foot Rio Rancho semiconductor plant on Sara Road. Delays stem from weak economy and industry slowdown, with officials noting low business yet plans to hire about 1000 once operational. The firm filed a discharge plan with New Mexico authorities for wafer processing wastes and stressed it will not vent emissions. Rumors of moving corporate headquarters to Rio Rancho were dismissed by communications assistant Rebecca Wallo.
