Rio Rancho Police Department faces higher ammo prices and long delays with orders. Sgt. Nicholas Oaken notes .40 caliber practice rounds run about 23.5 cents and protection rounds about 26 cents each, with orders taking nine to 18 months to fill. The department maintains 129 officers, each needing multiple tests and 50 rounds per test, totaling at least 12,900 rounds for just qualification.
