The city invites residents to nominate a "Volunteer of the Year" for induction into the Rio Rancho Hall of Honor. Nomination forms are available at City Hall, Meadowlark Senior Center, the library, banks, The Observer, and more. Nominations are due by May 26 and will be recognized at a July reception with a plaque and portrait in the Hall of Honor.

Moya denied release in fatal Rio Rancho crash case
Jerry Moya 46 of Albuquerque will stay in jail after Judge Kenneth Brown declined a request for release to obtain hospital treatment. He faces vehicular homicide charges in the January 18 crash that killed 15 year old Karen Ferreira and injured her 17 year old brother Douglas near NM 528 and High Resort Boulevard. Karen died at UNM Hospital. Douglas has recovered.
