Rio Rancho Faces 27500 EPA Fine Over Sewage Spill

Rio Rancho faces a 27500 fine from the EPA after about 6400 gallons of treated sewage and sludge were released into the Rio Grande from Treatment Plant No 2 in July. City officials plan talks in Dallas to reduce the penalty or redirect funds to wastewater improvements. STE may reimburse the city for the amount if required under the contract.

Hawk Site plan stalled as council asks questions

The Hawk Site, a 500 acre Rio Rancho development by AMREP Southwest, seeks residential, commercial and industrial use with a master plan and zone change. The City Council postponed approval amid questions on housing density traffic wastewater and water.

Rio Rancho appoints Marc Fernandez to P and Z seat

The Rio Rancho council unanimously appointed Marc Fernandez to the vacant District 2 Planning and Zoning Commission seat. Fernandez, a used car salesman from District 2, replaces Donald Weidner who resigned for health reasons. His term runs to June 2002 with possible reappointment. The vote ends a dispute between Mayor John Jennings and several council members led by Patty Thomas.
