Eugene Manlove Rhodes 65 noted western writer died in San Diego of heart disease. Rhodes, once a cattle hand in New Mexico, drew on local events for many stories. He was born in Nebraska, studied at the University of the Pacific, lived in Appalachian New York and Alamogordo before settling in San Diego. The Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce offered help to fulfill his burial wish, expressing sympathy and intent to assist.
