Bees as spreaders of fire blight in fruit trees
Kalter explains in Gleanings in Bee Culture that bees are unlikely primary spreaders of fire blight. Insects such as plant lice, aphids, scale, and bark-sucking beetles, active before and after bloom, are the main distributors. Bees mainly pollinate and may carry infection only if blossoms are infected.
