Twenty seven years ago the State Grand Lodge of Good Samaritans created an insurance department to pay death claims after a crisis of confidence. Grand Chief J W Thompson organized the Benevolent Endowment Association of State Grand Lodge No. 6, with a board and committees guiding its setup. The first policy was issued October 29, 1901 to PH Johnson, James Ross, and J W Thompson.
