Fair Department Store to Open in Washington with All Colored Staff

In Washington D C the Fair Department Store will open on April 15 at Seventh and I streets NW. The store covers about 20 000 square feet on three floors and employs approximately 100 colored salespeople. The Mercantile Trading Company owns it, led by president Thomas H R Clarke, who plans expansion to other cities to boost black purchasing power and alleviate unemployment.

Centralia Service and Wedding Notes Highlight Local Events

At Centralia, 12 o'clock services were led by Rev. W E Brown with the Knights of Pythias and Calanthe of Centralia holding their thanksgiving exercises at 2 PM. Rev C A Dobbs delivered the sermon "Go Forward." Visitors included Mrs C A Dobbs and Miss Rowena Johnson of Richmond. A play titled The Fatal Wedding was staged at Chesterfield County High School by Miss Elaine Friend and Miss Lavinia Cogbill. Lucinda Rose portrayed the bride with Master Paul Copeland as groom and Adele Davis as the forsaken mother. The Sunday School Union will meet at Union Grove on the fifth Sunday at 12 noon.
