Convict Kills Convict in Richmond Court Scene

In Richmond Circuit Court Judge R Carter Scott presided as Thomas Mack, a colored convict, faced a trial for killing Robert Brooks, a white convict. Attorney J Thomas Newsome delayed, then arrived with witnesses, assisted by F J Thor good. Newsome entered a guilty plea, prompting questions of first degree murder and a continuation on page 8.

Ministers Back Editorial on Good Morning Judge Column

Richmond editors faced a request from the Baptist Ministers Conference of Richmond and vicinity to abolish the column Good morning Judge citing offense to local Negro readers. Pistol Duel Turns Deadly on Broad Street

A pistol duel last Monday night at 1419 Broad Street left Joe Gramman dead after shots struck his neck and chest. Robert Herbert, also of 1419 Broad Street, lies in serious condition at SoPhilp's Hospital with a stomach wound. Gramman entered Herbert’s rooms after an argument sparked the confrontation. Herbert’s fate is listed as hopeless by doctors.

Maine Goes Republican wins U S Senate seat

Arthur R. Gould, 73, businessman from Presque Isle, elected U S Senator on the Republican ticket by about 50,000 votes over Fulton J. Redman of Ellsworth. Major gains in Portland and twenty state cities, with rural districts showing weaker Redman support amid Klans charges. Redman, who vowed to carry Gould to Washington if defeated, conceded after a campaign troubled by alleged illegal expenditures.
