Western street duel ends with fatal shooting and court await
On Wednesday August 22 on Second Street near Leigh Street James Dean and Frank Irvin exchanged gunfire in broad daylight. Irvin was wounded in the groin and lower body before firing back. both men were taken to St. Philips Hospital. A bystander, Leslie Aytes, was hit by a stray bullet and a shotgun later connected to the incident was found. Dean faced a police court arraignment on murder charges with hearings adjourned to August 31.
