Two Negroes Lynched in Georgia as Sheriff Absent
Atlanta Aug 17 Two Negroes were lynched in Georgia today as sheriffs were absent from jail. In Bleckley County Cochran a mob broke into the jail freed Alec Harris then hanged him from a tree after accusing him of attacking a white woman. Harris had been on chain gang for burglary. In Houston County Lee Greer was seized from officers carried to a house and hanged. The two lynchings, about 60 miles apart, involved a mob of about seventy five men. Governor Walker promised a full investigation and ordered officials to report details.
