Tolls Top Two Million As Canal Opens Half Year

A survey notes that thirteen days before six months since opening the canal, tolls surpassed 2 000 000 dollars. January cargo totaled 445 967 tons, pushing the all time to 2 192 860 tons. Major trades included 112 695 tons with South America and Europe, and 103 600 tons westward coastwise traffic.

Our Trade Balance Records Historic January Favor for U S

January foreign trade shows the largest favorable balance in U S history. Thirteen ports handled 86 percent of trade with exports of 238,574,096 and imports of 107,440,208, a surplus of 131,133,888. Cotton exports boosted figures with nearly 400,000 bales in the last week and 2,260,699 bales in the eight weeks ending January 30.
