In Alpena Michigan on October 21 Grace Barber a 19 year old schoolteacher kept her Krakow township students in line as flames neared the building. She led the class to a plowed field telling the leaders to head first and kept the rear from straggling. Embers burned near clothing but were extinguished as the group ran to safety.
