John Worth Kern accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president at a large Indianapolis rally in the colosseum of the state fairgrounds. William Jennings Bryan and Thomas R. Marshall spoke, and Kern argued for populist reforms including tariff reductions on white paper and wood pulp. Bryan also stressed trusts, criticizing Republicans for insufficient reform.
Lee Reid, named by Mrs. Fred Gennert as the home intruder, remains unresponsive in the city jail. An affidavit filed yesterday charges burglary. conviction could bring ten years in prison.
A toll bridge over the Waters river near Camden was washed away by flood waters. About twenty five people were carried away and eight are reported drowned in the disaster.
Ferdinand P. Earle, artist of affinity fame, was arrested at his home near Monroe New York on August 24 charged with assault in the second degree alleged to have occurred about August 16, twelve days after the birth of their child. He pled guilty and was held to await the grand jury. Preferring to be locked up rather than post bail, Earle was conveyed to jail.
Mrs Kort failed to appear in police court while Jefferson Kort and his son Howard faced charges for liquor. Jefferson pleaded guilty to supplying liquor to a minor and Howard to intoxication. fines were assessed at 26 and costs and 85 and costs respectively.
The Y M C A plans an officers ball for the Tenth Regiment at Fort Benjamin Harrison with tickets at one dollar per couple. Cal Green notes officers will attend in uniform, expecting added appeal. Police arrest an eight year old for stealing $1.50 from a cigar-store vending machine, with parents contacted.
City ordinance requires removal of all overhead wires on Main Street except trolley wires and traction company poles by September 1. Street railway and Bell Telephone crews push to complete removal while evaluating if trolley feed wires on iron poles comply. Fire department notes safety concerns amid pole and wire shifts downtown.
Officials believe the wires on iron poles pose hazards similar to wood poles. With voltages over 500, working near them is dangerous. The city jail notes nearly every pole on the south end of Main Street from east to west is affected.

Mrs. Harry Chrow of 207 North Fourteenth Street was badly hurt when a carriage horse bolted near Honeysuckle Hill at Glen Miller Park. She sustained a fractured right ankle, dislocated left ankle, dislocated shoulder, head injury and extensive bruising as others in the party remained largely uninjured.

The account, given to Mrs. James Stillwell at his boarding house, portrays Thomas Long’s death after being struck by a car as an accident with no fault by the driver Skiles W. Bricker.
